In March 2012 the Library of Americawill publish the libretto of Finian's Rainbow as part of The American Musical, a definitive two-volume edition of the books and lyrics of the sixteen greatest libretti from the 1920s through the 1960s, to be edited by Laurence Maslon of New York University. Finian's Rainbow, with music by Burton Lane, lyrics by Yip Harburg and a libretto by Yip Harburg and Fred Saidy, opened on Broadway on January 10, 1947.
